Plumulites Annelid Feathery Worm Fossil

Plumulites Annelid Feathery Worm Fossil

Name: Plumulites
Order: Turrilepadomorpha Family: Plumulititidae
Age: Ordovician (Machaeridian
Size: The fossil is 2” in length on a small irregular shaped plate.
Fossil Location: Lower Ktaova, Mecissi, Morocco
Comments: Plumulites was a slug like Metazoan, or, armored worm. The armoured annelid worm is the relative of the modern-day earthworm, leech and bristleworm. They have only recently been quarried and brought to the fossil market place. Generally, the preservation of the fossils is sketchy and poor, as they were soft-bodied. This particular specimen is well preserved presenting a bright rust/orange patina, displaying excellent detail of the feathery appendages. It fully exhibits the complete body, including the tapered head and tail. The spinal cord is clearly evident. The plate was cracked and repaired.

Excellent Oregon Crab Orbitoplax in Concretion

Parapinnixa Crab Fossil

Name: Orbitoplax stephonsoni
Age: Eocene – Looking Glass Formation
Size: (25.4mm=1 inch): Specimen is 50 mm in width by 27 in length
Location: Gold Beach, Oregon
Comments: This is very well preserved specimen of Orbitoplax. Both arms and claws are exquisitely preserved. Five residual legs are present. The specimen exhibits a tan/brown color set off nicely against the light gray background concretion. It was discovered by cracking the concretion in which it was residing for many millions of years. The concretion was then re-glued and painstakingly curated with air abrasion. (The positive never splits cleanly from the negative in these concretions.) Many hours of skilled work are required to prepare one of these crab concretions.
