Comments: Needless to say, Polish trilobites are almost impossible to find. I came into a small lot of these a few years ago from a German dealer. This is a rare treat for the species collector.

Unusual Cyphaspis ceratophthalmus Eifel French

Location: Eifel Ahrdorf Formation, “Pelm-Salmer Weg” Eifel Region, Germany
Size: (25.4mm=1 inch): The trilobite is 5/8” in length
Comments: Here is a nice treat for the specialist Eifel Formation, or European trilobite collector. It is a hard to find Cyphaspis ceratophthalmus from Germany. Of notable interest is the inflated glabella and long outwardly thrust genals. It was collected at the classic “Pelm-Salmer Weg” in Gees. Overall it is well preserved. There is a little skin missing on the glabella. The thorax has a bit of curvature, the pygidum is preserved.

Size: (25.4mm=1 inch): The primary trilobite is 1 7/8” including the tail spine
Comments: This genus is from the order Phacopida -Dalmanitoidea – Dalmanitidae. This is a classic type specimen showing the compression and distortion typical of Valongo trilobites. It has a ghostly appearance, but is otherwise in a good state of preservation. This one has the rarely preserved tail spine in place. he plate was cracked and repaired. There is another large partial specimen of Eodalmantinia resting aesthetically to the right side of the primary specimen.
